1. Name of association: Alcoholic Awareness and Family Recovery Association (AAFR)

Vision and mission statement: To assist people with an alcoholic problem to stay sober, help other alcoholic to achieve sobriety, assist families who are suffering because of a member with an alcohol problem to restore peace and unity and to live happily together as a family. Our mission is to provide educational courses/training programs to assist in Alcohol Awareness and Family Recovery. There will be an outreach to villages and outer islands. Eventually it is hoped that there will be an outreach to other Pacific countries.
Future plans: Importance is given to training of personnel, e.g. one member of the team has recently undergone training at the AAFR Centre in Darwin, Australia. Funding is needed for further training of other team members.
To improve AAFR Centre facilities, e.g to provide a classroom and an office block.
To employ more lay people as permanent staff.
Date established: Early 1988 the Kiribati version of AAFR was founded.

4. Name of association: Kiribati Family Health Association (KFHA)

Vision and mission Statements: KFHA will become a Member Association of IPPA, fully staffed, equipped and resourced to meet the needs of the underserved and vulnerable sections of the community in the areas of Reproductive Health. Our mission is to improve the quality of life of the I-Kiribati people by contributing to a high standard of reproductive health care consistent with IPPF's Strategic framework as well as the National development Strategy of the Government of Kiribati.. KFHA will also strive to eliminate STI and reduce the impacts of HIV and AIDS in the country. KFHA bases its work on the premise that reproductive health information and services is a fundamental right and everybody in Kiribati regardless of age or sex should have access to such services without any hindrance or fear of discrimination.
